Hiya

BIG price difference mate, depends very much on your intended use! Godspeed also do a Brembo kit! Only a couple of hundred quid more than the big disc upgrade and a good compromise for fast road and occasional track use, I'd imagine. If you're a trackday monster than APs are prob the way to go, but you're looking at min £1200

Best.

Cheers!

I dont think trackday monster would be the description... but fast road and occasional track use is about spot on!

Just had a look on GS's website, I think its going to be between the
335 conversion £625 and the
308 Brembo conversion £795

I know this might be a daft question, but if I went for the the Brembo option, could I fit the front brakes that the brembos replace to the back? (sorry in advance.. LOL)

Has anyone done either of these?

J,
In order to fit the 335mm kit, your car needs to have the subaru four pots already, cos the kit re-uses those calipers, unless you get the brembo kit, in which case it doesn't matter which caliper is on the car to start with.
The other consideration is wheel size, you need 17's to fit the 335 kit. whereas only 16's for the 308's.
The kit is more than up to fast road and occasional track use, but pad choice is very important.
I have the 335 kit, and they're great.!!

it's not necessary to put the ones off the front on the back, the only thing you need to do is fit the same pad material as you have in the fronts.

Thanks RON

The car is a MY99 Type R so doesnt have ABS (thats why Im keen to uprate them initially) but I think it has the 4 pots on and it also has 17" wheels. The chances are I would use EBC Redstuff ceramics, thats what I put on my last scoob and was very happy with them.

So in real terms whats the difference in performance between the 308 Brembo kit and the 335 conversion and is it worth an extra £170?

It';s not quite that simple, not all apds are available for the 335 kit, it uses an XJS pad, so options are slightly limited.
It's not just £170 either, cos if you had the 308's you could then sell the subaru four pots, but to be honest, the main reason that Ian makes the 308 kit is for the people who want to uprate their two pots for something that'll fit inside 16's!!
If you don't mind the expense, get the 335's, you will not be dissapointed!!

It's a Jaguar XJS/Aston Martin pad shape and most of the popular compounds are available.

EBC Redstuff Ceramic
Ferodo DS2500
Mintex 1144, 1155
Pagid RS4-2-1

But you can also get the Brembo conversion to in the 335 size can't you? :-) I would be right in thinking these are superior to the standard four pots wouldn't I?

Best.

If you intend to track it choose the grooved disks rather than grooved / drilled, which can crack with enthusiastic use.

The Godspeeds are excellent, unless you can find a 2nd hand set of APs, but they're pretty rare (and you'd have to beat me to them )

not an awful lot to choose between calipers as the subaru 4 pots are pretty good, I wouldn't bother upgrading them for anything less than APs

Brembos probably weigh less that the heavy Subarus if you're weight conscious.

Only if they're alloy ones, which I'm not sure if they are or not!

According to the website they are alloy ones! Discs available in 225 and 235mm for the Brembo conversion as well. Given the fact that its only £100 more than the equivalent big disc conversion, I'd go with the Brembo kit.

Id love to get the AP brakes but they are just too expensive for me at the moment as I am also hoping to get an AP Organic clutch fitted as well.

Well, after having a long chat with a mate of mine (who does a lot of trackdays etc) I think it will be wiser to go for the 325 Brembo kit, which is £895 but when I sell my 4 pots for about £300 (which I believe is about the going rate) its going to work out cheaper than the 335 conversion, plus you get braided hoses in the Brembo kit as well

Thanks for the input guys

Jay Bee, When would you be interested in making the change. I've been thinking about the Brembo upgrade too (but probably not till early next year), maybe we should enquire into a group buy. I'd need the 308 kit though, as I have 16 inch wheels.

Best wishes,

It depends really, I'll have to see how much money I have left after picking the motor up on Friday. So it could be this month but probably going to be February now, what with xmas coming up plus my APFC is hopefully getting mapped this month by Mr Forrest, AP clutch & stag do in Prague in January....

Id be up for having a look at a GB for early next yr. Deffo

Opps, I've just realised that I said the discs were 225 and 235mm ...hmm, rather small! :-) Should have had a three in front rather than a two!

I have the 335mm kit with subaru calipers fitted to my V4 Type R.

Well happy with them, just need to find some rears to match.

But this is proving to be a big problem due to the Type R's bigger diff, which means the handbrake size is 190mm not 170mm.

Jay/New Scoob,

I went for the 325mm grooved and drilled brembo kit and can't fault them. The only thing I've noticed is that under heavy braking the car can start to feel a bit twitchy at the rear end. Obviously too much braking power at the front! So I have just got in on the group buy for new rears and pads to even things up a bit.
