Default Handbrake stoped working - new disks needed

My handbrake has stopped working. The car is in the garage today and I have been told that the drum has ridge on it. As the drum is the centre part to the disk, I now need new rear disks, pads and shoes. I don't understand how the drum part could have worn so badly, I never us the handbrake to stop the car so how does the lip form. Is this normal? The car is a MY 99.

Should I replace with standard kit? I am running EBC green and Tarox disks on the front.

Thanks

Duke

Sounds like the handbrake mechanism hadnt been releasing properly - hence the ridge and worn out shoes.
You'll probably be able to find some aftermarket rear discs for less then OEM ones. I'd get some rear pads that match the front compound you use too - as it makes hard braking much more balanced.

Look at www.camskill.co.uk for prices of rear disks and handbrake shoes, much cheaper than a dealer.

Dave.
