Question Rota Tarmac2 Tyre size help please!

Ok, folks - need to pick someone's brains. I'm about to pick up a set of Rota Tarmac 2's - they're 17inch ones, & they're 7.5 inches wide, with a 48mm offset. The car is a MY00 Classic Turbo, currently on standard rims & suspension. I've tried doing a search, the recommended size being 205/45, but I think 215/40 could look better as they wouldn't look so stretched. Does anyone know if I would have trouble with these, such as rubbing or poor handling, etc.

I had this 'unusual' size on my UK 99 Turbo with deal fitted prodrive 17's x 7''
Tyres were SO2's.
Absolutly no problems.
Question is though, are the offsets the same?

Good luck,

Most people use 215/40 instead of 205/45.
More choice and cheaper

Question

Thanks for your replies, fellas. Pretty much decided on 215/40 as I want Goodyear Eagle F1's & they don't do them in the other size. Got a quote from my local favourite tyre dealer - £110 (each) balanced & fitted. Does that sound competitive?

I'm running that exact combination at the moment - 17x7.5 wheels, 48 offset and 215/40 tyres. Had no rubbing problems even with the Leda coilovers dropping the ride height a touch.

Don't know whether it's the placebo effect but this setup seems a touch sharper than my previous wheel/tyre combination.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jimmy - that's a big relief. I know other people put bigger rims on than that without too many problems, but I went & felt around the top of my (standard) rear tyres & the clearance between the tyre & the strut seemed very marginal.
