Minimum tread regs, anyone?

Minimum tread regs, anyone?
Looks like I didn't change my fronts to rears in time and the inside edges of the now-rears are worn to almost no tread - even though there's about 3.5 mm on the rest of the tyre.
I seem to remember the rule is 1.6mm over 75% of the width of the tyre, but may be wrong. Does anyone out there know the definitive requirement for tyre treads?

From the MOT manual, failure if:
The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising
. the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread, and
. round the entire outer circumference of the tyre
Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (ie. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass standard although in practice such tyre wear is unlikely to occur.
This surprised me as I thought you needed 75% with 1.6mm tread and visible tread over the other 25% but the visible tread is no longer the case.

Thanks, guys - time to get the tape-measure out. I'm a bit skint this month, and would prefer to change all four together, so avoiding the expense now would be very handy.
Are Scooby's prone to wearing the inside edge of tyres?

When measuring the tread, take the width of the tyre ie 205mm, take 75% which as close to 150mm as need be for measuring, divide by 2 gives 75mm for each side of the centre of the tyre and check for legal rubber within this area. The only other way it can fail with regards to measurement is if any cord is showing on the bald areas
