Unhappy advice pls. Tyre damage and the dreaded mot

As i was putting the car on the drive i caught the sharp edge of the kerb on the rear tyre. I was only doing 5 mph but on looking at the tyre the outer rubber surfacee has a 1 cm square 3mm thick piece of rubber hanging off. The nick is only about 3mm deep i.e. only the surface rubber is damaged.
just like you almost cut a slice into it.
My concern is have i just ballsed up a perfectly good tyre which will now fail the mot in september.
Question anyone know or have experience of this for mot.
any advice welcome.
cheers

I have had the misfortune to do this twice (big wheeled Volvo, crap turning circle). Went to kwik fit, they said my lease company won't change unless it was cut down to the canvas, and they did not consider it dangerous. Not happy with that I got the tyre changed anyway. Pesonally I would just bite the bullet and get a new one ASAP for peace of mind.
