Just thought I would share my recent problem.

I had a bright metallic grinding noise occasionally coming form the rear of the car (especially when turning right). Fearing the worst (major mechanical failure) I check for loose wheel nuts, bearing noise, suspension parts, exhaust etc and was "non the wiser". So, phoned local Subaru dealer (no help) and then Subaru assistance. Mechanic arrived promptly (thx Subaru - good customer service) and to cut along story short the mechanic found a small stone trapped between inside of rear disc and the backing plate! How dumb did I feel........anyway good news is stone was removed and problem now sorted. Turns out this is a common problem for this time of year (all fecking the tarmac gritting going on) and common for cars with rear discs.
