Spongy Brake Pedal

Spongy Brake Pedal
Hi all! I have a 2000 Merc Vito with just over 30k on the clock. The Brake Pedal is very soft, almost touches floor under heavy braking, much much worse than my old Transit. We tried changing the pads (back only as they were worn) and the fluid but no difference! The van has ABS and EBD, maybe the EBD causes this? Is it possible to turn the servo up, or adjust the pedal, or is this a common fault in Vitos (only ever driven 1) Oh yea it passed its MOT!! Thanks in advance for replies.

This is a feature (according to Mercedes) on both the V class & Vito's apparantly caused by a large brake servo that pulls the pedal down when braking which makes it feel spongy. The ML's suffer from the same.
Pump the pedal up without the engine running & you should find a nice firm pedal which will confirm it's the servo.
