Is it an easy job to change front brake pads?
My front brake pads are about gone - is it an easy job to change front brake pads? The car is an STI3 with standard 4 pot calipers.
Also, what pads (and discs - same diameter) are best value, given that I do a lot of short journeys and they never get heated up?

easy?? depends on how mechanical you are..................
obviously jack up car, support on axle stands, take wheel off, etc......................
on the rear top (radially) of the pads you will see a spring clip holding two pins in place across the pads, remove these, push back pistons to lift out pads, clean caliper and pins around pad working area, replace with new pads using "old" steel shims, etc........add a little copperslip to touching parts of pad (obviously not in the friction area!!), replace pins and spring clip..................voila!! repeat on other side................
replace wheels, torque to 65lbs/ft, put back on floor, etc.................
remember to "pump" the brake pedal before you drive off to ensure the pads are in contact with the discs...................
hope this helps,
as for pads & discs - really depends what you are after in terms of stopping power, usage, etc..............can sort some recomendations if you wish
