Wider tyres on 01 WRX
I have some new wheels for my 01 WRX on the way which are 7.5" wide, believe this is the same width as STi wheels so have the opportunity to go to a 225/45/17 tyre rather than the std 215's. Any views on good or bad effects of doing thisl; worse tramlining? noticable improvement in grip?.

Just put a set of STi8 wheels & tyres on my 04 WRX wagon. Results:
Slight increase in tramlining
Slight decrease in noise (?!)
Steering seems to favour the left slightly (this really confuses me).
Corners flatter (doesn't surprise me - nice)
Possibly slight less sensitive steering, but seems more stable/predictable (especially through bends ).
Old wheels & tyres had 4k miles and were Potenza RE50
New wheels & tyres were brand new (12 miles) Potenza RE40
Hope it helps & if you have any ideas on the steering pulling left (a bit), would be grateful.
Cheers
Pete

Interesting, I've not sorted the tyres as yet, thinking of going for another pair of 215's to start with (2 need replacing, 2 are ok) then changing all to 225's when they need replacing next, I too have a pull to the left even though the geometry has been checked over and is spot on. I'm hoping replacing the fronts will do the trick although I cant see any 'odd' wear on the left side.
