Default Recommended Tyres for 2003 WRX

I currently have Bridgestone 215/45R17 87Ws which have done 17K miles which I think is pretty good. They are due to be replaced - would anyone recommend alternatives for every day use or should I replace with the same?

Have tried both Toyo T1-S and Goodyear F1 GSD3 on mine and I rate the Goodyears as a better tyre.Do a search on this forum and you'll find tons of info on what works best with what car.General consensus seems to be either Bridgestone, Toyo or Goodyears....

Good luck

Nick

Michelin Pilot sports grip really well (wet or dry) .... and any tyre that lasts longer than 7000miles on my car is doing well (and these are still going strong after 7000!)

Toyos - slightly cheaper, but very good. Goodyear F1s - outstanding in wet and dry. My preference would be the F1 - very good road tyre. I originally had 18" Pirelli's on my car. They tramlined very badly after only 8 or 9000 miles. My experience with them wasn't good.

Would also add that the drawback to these is that they give a much firmer ride (must have very stiff sidewalls).

Thank you all for your feedback. I think I'll go for the Goodyears - best price £110 per tyre (including balancing) for 4 tyres at Kwikfit.

Whats the difference (apart from price) between the Goodyear Eagle F1's and the Goodyear Eagle F1 GDS3's?

Simon,
I've got just under 14k on my tyres and the outside edges of passenger sides are bald . Do you have the same? I think I might need tracking or something???

Cheers
Frank

I thought the outside edges on mine where gone, but when they came off the car both edges were worn (and they were not under-inflated). Anyway, new set seem to be lasting much better since laser wheel alignment.

Where did you get your laser alignment done? Dealer or 3rd party?

TSL near Nottingham. It cost £123, though when you consider it was being adjusted for over 2 hrs (nearly 3 I think), then it is not too bad. Plus, it puts a big old smile on your face being able to power through bends!! ...and my tyres are definitely lasting longer.

The rig also uses 8 lasers (I think), so is better than anything the dealer would probably have (though I may be wrong).

Ive just brought some TOYO`s from leigh tyres a bargain at £70 each. Just got to get them fitted. Can the tyre fitters do the wheel alignment? or if my dealer does it how much should I expect to pay.

Cheers

most tyre only dealers just do that.

The Subaru garage in Widnes quoted me 85+VAT (£99.8!) to check the tracking/geometry etc. Seems a bit steep to me especially if they come back and say all is ok

What do the Toyo's feel like compared to the stock Bridgestones mate?

I'm thinking about the Goodyear Eagle F1 at the moment.

Having them fitted tomorrow. I will let you know. I thought about eagle F1`s as they are highly regarded on here but to be honest the Toyos will do me and should work out over hundred notes cheaper.

F1 GSD3s.

Only downside is the tread on the outer edges is shallower, meaning that, especially with more aggressive geometry setup they will reach the depth limit a lot sooner than the centres, but then again at least it means you replace them well before the wet weather performance has dropped off significantly.

On standard sus they still lasted me at least 15k a set. This lot will be done by around 12-13k I suspect.

Had the Toyos fitted today for £50 inc adjustment to front wheels (Dont know if this will make any difference to wear). So it has cost me a total of £330. I have not really had a fast drive with them but first thing that struck me was they are alot quieter than the bridgestones. Grip seems alot better but the front of my bridgestones were worn on both edges so may be why? The rear bridgestones were ok and really did not need changing but I thought best have same brand on all corners. One thing I noticed when they put new tyres on that my front pads now need changing.
