Default wheel offset(sorry!)

hi all,how does wheel offset work?is the lower the number the closer whel/tyre is to the arce,or other way round?what is lowest offset could have useing a 7.5"rim(17"diameter)what is the PCD of classic shape wrx?

Classic offsets are between ET53/55, on a 7x17 wheel, usually you'll find companies such as Speedline and OZ, use an ET48 for Subaru's
