Question How to tell if brakes are nacked?

I've got a MY03 WRX +PPP and on a recent visit to some mountainous areas of Europe, a vigourous drive left the beakes quite hot and smoking for a bit.

The car has done 5000miles, mostly gently except for the 50 miles or so hard / fast as explained.

Having not driven the car for a week or so (been in a people carrier), the pedal now has a lifeless feel and almost doesn't want to stop unless really pressed hard. Stopping power doesn't seem to have decreased but I need to really push the pedal hard.

Also, I tried two sharper stops from acceleration today say 40/50 and when I got out of the car the brakes smelled a bit?

Any pointers on what may be happening here - such as cooked brake fluid / nacked pads / just getting used to the scoob again?

Glazed pads at the least I should think. When I got my '03 the brakes weren't right. The guy had caned them a bit. I got him to take it back before I bought it as I wasn't happy. One of the pads was cracked. They changed all four front pads and the discs too under warranty. That had also done just over 5k by coincidence.
Definitely get them checked if they don't feel right.
