Question Brake upgrade recommendations?

Cos I'm now getting the scrapey-graunchey-change me quick noise from the front pads, I'm looking at changing the discs and pads (the discs are also well worn).

Thing is, I'd like to mildly upgrade them. I say mildly cos to be honest my girlfriend uses the car during the week just pootling to work and back, so I need something that works from cold, but I'd like something with a little more bite for my occasional back lane dashes.

And before anybody recommends AP 6 pots or the like, I've just moved house and have more pressing things to buy. Like carpets. And a bed.

So I'm thinking standard spec discs with some "fast road" pads. From what I've read the M1144 aren't to special, and squeal a bit. So I'm thinking DS2500 or the new EBC Greens (or Reds?)

Anybody have a recommendation, based on these criteria?

BTW. It's an MY00 with standard 295mm discs and 4 pots.

Cheers,

Matt

Thumbs up

Bigger discs mate, u cant beat them.

Cheapest alternative to AP is Godspeed's 335mm kit.

You can either go for

(a)
http://www.godspeedbrakes.fsnet.co.uk/Subaru/subaru.htm

These use will use your OE 4-pots with spacers to widen them to take the bigger discs.

OR

(b) http://www.godspeedbrakes.fsnet.co.u...red_brembo.htm

Obvisously (b) is a lot more expensive but boy they look the DB's.

Both can come with Ferodo pads like the ones you mention.

The other kit is just as good and will stop you very, very quickly. Loads of people on here have this kit and overall they have a very good reputation.

You can get aftermarket ones which will feel better than OE but not in the same league as Godspeed and only slightly cheaper.

My opinion of course. I've got one's with Brembo's.

I had ferodo DS2500 and pagid RS 4-2-1 on my MY 2000. Pagids were the better pad, slightly more bite, but cost a bit more,

Got some recently from Scoobymania, they seemed to be the cheapest could find at the time.
