Can ABS be fitted to a type R or RA ?
#1
Is there any technical reasons why ABS cannot be fitted to a type R or RA.
Interested in that I like the look etc of a type R or RA but does not come with ABS which I think is essential for road use.
Thanks.
Andy.

I could be wrong , but I would think that the non-ABD cars would need a change of hubs to the ones with sensor holes in them, my personal thought is that it would never be worth the agg!

Hi Andy,
the main reson why the Type-R and Type-RA are not fitted with ABS is because of the diff lock!! you can not have the two working at the same time!!I think on the 22B it was a option eather to have ABS or to have the diff lock.
I run a type-R and have found that it is fine to drive with no ABS. when its raining i will turn up the diff by 2-3 clicks, it will act a little like ABS as all wheels will turn aprox same speed!!

Yep, Chu is spot on about why.
Also, the group N gravel trick is to wind the diff full on for a big stop (and this is on gravel, remember) and then wind it back to the preferred setting once the braking is done.
You will need 4 hands, 3 legs and 2 heads, until you get the hang of it

Thanks for the reply guys.
Its just that I like the 2 door as in my opinion looks a bit sportier than my 4 door STi at the moment. I think the ABS option is a must for me.

If you're after a 2 door then I'm not sure why you would be interested in the RA then.
An alternative to the P1 would also be one of the Type R V-limiteds which also tend to drop the diff lock in favour of ABS.

Thanks Steve
Will have a look round for the one you have mentioned Type R V-limited with ABS.
I dont know all the variations you can get with the scooby but I am learning slowly.
