I have a 99 V plate Scooby with standard 16" wheels shod with Fulda Extremo's. My problem is I can feel a hell-of-a-lotta tyre wall flex and can get them to squeal very easily. On roundabouts the noise and slide I can create would make you think I was doing twice the speed.

Have I just chose crap tyres? Should I go back to the original fitments? Has anyone had success with different tyre pressures? Do I need bigger wheels to really enjoy the car? Or should I just slow down?

 

I've never heard anyone use these tyres before. It could be a combination of poor tyres and incorrect tyre pressures. If the sidewalls are flexing a lot, then try increasing the pressures to something like 36psi, and then adjusting the fronts and rears by 1 or 2psi at a time until you find settings that suit your driving style.

i have my tyres @ 30 all round, what should they be and what do you recon for a good drive ???

must admit i do give it some and fling it round corners

I expect its the tyres, but remember that higher pressures at the rear compared to the front will make the car 'more' tail happy.

The best thing you can do is buy a pressure gauge (don't rely on garage gauges) and experiment.

I have found that somewhere around 35psi all round suits the type of roads I drive on, and gives a good level of feedback through the wheel. The ride is a bit firmer than normal (I'm on 17 inch wheels), but you soon get used to it.

 

I'm running SO-3's at the mo @ 33psi all round.

I'd like to get my **** out more but the prob tends to be understeer.

Front straight on not **** out.

I reckon the tyres are rather shrite. The higher pressure I put in the greater the tendency for the car to snake at the flick of the wheel.

Hopefully I'll have worn these down soon with some rather noisy roundabout power slides.

Any recommendations on what to replace them with?

 

I was using these tyres and I found them to be the best of the cheaper ( < £60 ) brands - I've tried a few . After reading this board I went the extra few pounds and fitted a set of goodyear eagle F1's . Wow what a difference ! I'll never fit 'cheap' tyres again ' . It's worth the extra £25 a corner for the extra confidence you gain in your cars grip .

 

I've found the perfect setting for the tyres. 35psi all round. Had a blast from Bristol to Leeds and a trip from Leeds to Sheffield, as well as a test on the local Bypass. The cars handling is 100% better. It feels better than when I first bought it!
