Hi All

I've got my 1st set of 16" slicks for a forthcoming trackday. I've been recommended to start them off at 10psi less than usual and monitor them throughout the day.

Any other views, experiences?

Cheers

Lee.

I got my 16" slicks of a motorsport tyre dealer who has been in business for 20 years and knows his stuff . He told me to run them at 29 psi all round and check the tyre temp across the width of the tyre after each session . If the center of the tyre is a lot colder than the edges add 2 psi , if it's a lot hotter let 2 psi out . Bear in mind the outside edge will usually be hotter than the rest of the tyre unless you are running on competition suspension and you can't do much about that . You will find that the outside front wheel will wear quicker than the rest and you may need to swop it round if it gets too worn . Keep a check on your brake pads as you will be able to brake a lot later and harder than before and you can wear a set of pads very quickly .
This is important . Give the tyres a couple of laps to warm up before going flat out . I've seen too many accidents caused by drivers not giving thier tyres , brakes and themselves a chance to warm up .
