Best Tyres For Impreza??
#1
Hello Everyone,
I am currently running ZZ1's on my MY00(NOT IMPRESSED).
I am thinking of replacing them so whats best??
I only do around 7K miles a year so a reasonably soft tyre should be fine.
thanks

Marty,
From a personal opinion, I use Toyo Proxes, but you'll likely to end up with a load of "personal opinions"
BTW, the Marketing Manager at Toyo told me what size tyre to use on what size wheel, coz he has a scoob too
But then he would use Toyo's, wouldn't he!!!
Mine have done 12K miles or more, and grip real good

After seeing the state of the toyo's used by Simon de Banke at his world record attempt they really impressed me.
Bridgestone SO2's are the tyre for ultimate grip, BUT they are far less progressive and controlable on the limit. Toyo's have less grip, but are more progressive allowing you to make the most of what grip they have.
So SO2's for outright grip and poor wear.
Toyo's for slightly less grip but apparently better wear.
SO3's are a controversial point at the moment. They seem to suit the MY01 more than the MY94-00 and people have reported mixed results.
Until SO3's have been fully tested IMHO go with the toyo. They're cheaper too.

I've got 16" SO-3's on my Terzo.
Very good grip wet & dry grip but seems to take a while to settle in to a corner. As if the tread has some take up - what ever that may mean
And all for less that £400 for 4 all in.

Currently running Goodyear Eagle F1's. Lots of dry grip, lots of wet grip, nice & progressive on the limit. Quiet too.

you will struggle to get hold of SO2s now.
re SO3s, I have heard they are far better in larger sizes, all bad reports have be3en from people on 16s, not 17s or 18s.
Pat who swore by SO2s and swore at SO3s now admits they simply have more grip in the wet than an SO2, and that isone heck of an achievement.
I am about to put Goodyear F1s on!

I've got 16" SO-3's on my STi V4.
Stick very well on tight corners, even in the wet. Agree with Ian_sadlers comment though regarding a little play in the tyres when "settling into corners".
COst: £332 gross for all four to be changed (I have contacts in the trade!).
Can't comment yet on the miles per set, as I have only had them on the car for about a 1,000 miles or so.
regards, Mark.

So far I've been quoted 103 for S02's in Bracknell.
Dyney had some 17's put on this MY01 alloys on his MY97 (might be MY98!!) for 94 quid each at Wembley tyres.....

Yes I got 4x 215/40ZR17 S02's for 80+vat each
All in I payed £397 + tracking
Wembley tyres,Dudden Hill lane,Willesden,
020 8459 6191
They also do Toyos!!!!
I was talking to the guys there and they told me they import the tyres from Holland in bulk. Infact they were waiting on a delivery of 700 tyres including S03's.
If you go try and mention Scoobynet then maybe they'll take out a banner ad
Iain.

Time for a thread revival.
I have a W reg turbo wagon with 3 different makes of tyre fitted to the standard 205/50R16 wheels at preset from the last owner.
I was wandering what people ecomend for a good all year tyre?
I use to use Eagle F1 then moved into Toyo CF1 for the Mk1 MR2 but think they may be too soft for the impreza being awd?

im running £50 sunew ditch finders....but been on for 5000 miles and no problems at all;...infact they stick to bends rather well even in snow/ice....they came fitted to new alloys, and i was gonna ditch em after reading bad press about em, but honestly cant fault em esp for the price..and after 5000 miles no signs of wear!!

Here's to the 10 an a half year revival lol.
Hmmmm. Got a little question myself.
I've got 205/55 16" at the mo. Can I fit 205/45 16". Want a bit mor of a lower profile. Too chunky. Would there be issue's?

your speedo would read slightly high and your ground clearance would be slightly less! .... but on the flip side it would be slightly quicker as the wheels have a slightly lower inertia so would spin up quicker! (slightly!)
