I've had a look at changing the pads on my sport, and I can't see a way of doing it without removing the caliper. It appears to be fitted with pad shape B from the Scooby shop data sheet.

Can anyone tell me if I have to remove the caliper, or is there an easier way to do it?

Thanks

No, you don't need to remove the caliper.

But you do have to remove the lower bolt (on the caliper) which then allows it to swing upwards. The pads are then removed relatively easily along with their retaining clips (you will need to keep them for the replacement pads). You will also need to push the caliper pistons back to allow enough space for the new pads (note that this pushes brake fluid back into the master cylinder reservoir and it may eventually overflow).

Finally make sure that you apply high temperature grease to the back of the pad before fitting. This stops the brakes squealing.

I can give you even more detail if you need it.

D.

Thanks D,

I had a lot of trouble with the caliper slides on my old Ascona and Carlton, so I was reluctant to touch them on this car. I have had another look at the Subaru and it looks really easy to do as you suggest.

Many thanks

John
