Question

Heard of alot of people ordering the Godspeed 335mm discs for use with Subaru 4-pots but I have not heard back much feed back. Anybody got this kit on their cars yet?

I have just ordered but will probably be 14 days till I get it and then get it fitted, then hopefully I will have some serious stopping power on my car......my orginal 2-pots are just not up to it!!

Question

Have you had them on a track yet? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has.

I got a mail from Godspeed today, saying that they have sold quite a few brake kits recently, and that several were heading for track use.

I guess we'll get some feedback soon.

Sounds good. But what exactly are you running? Which discs, pads and calipers? Godspeed offer so many options it's important to be specific.

Ian,

I was under the impression that the only disk for the std Subaru 4-pots is the 294mm type.

This is due to lack of clearance for an adapter plate to move the caliper out to run a bigger disk. Is this the case? (16inch wheels)

Yes that's right , to fit a larger disc using original calipers means the caliper has to come out about 20mm to fit a bracket in , this means the disc has to twice this size bigger , eg , if you bring the caliper out 20mm the disc will be 40mm bigger , If you go from a 294mm disc to 300 -315 mm there is not enough room for a bracket , Cheers , Ian

How does the weight of 330mm discs with alloy bells compare to the OEM discs?

Daft question, but I realise that keeping unsprung weight down may be advantageous.

The question is, which standard size discs to go for on a road car? Given the theory that x-drilling degasses the pads and cools, and grooves degass and glazebust but presumably wear the pads quickly), do you need grooves for a road car or just x-drilling? Anyway, if the holes are for cooling, what does the spotting on EBC discs achieve? With EBC @ £120 from Peter Lloyd Racing, and X-drilled/grooved/combo @ £150 from Godspeed, I'm probably more tempted by the Godspeed X-drilled. Any comments?

Drilling is an outdated brake mod and does nothing that groves don't do, ie deglaze the pads, but drilling also promotes cracking between the holes under heavy use. Grooves do not increase wear or noise significantly. Some (usually race spec) pads may do that, under high load conditions. Drilling looks nice, though especially on those nice Porches and stuff - luckily their brakes don't get used too hard.

Experts also advise that modern pad materials do not produce fade-inducing gasses at the friction surface.

From which we can conclude, a) a few simple grooves are beneficial, b) everything else is cosmetic/marketing blx and arguably does more harm than good.

The modern Porsche Brembo discs have holes cast rather than drilled. They are superb, no cracking between holes. Just for information.

Not sure about on Scoobs, but last week at Bruntingthorpe they stopped the M.A.D. RS500 from 182.6mph ( Performance Ford top speed test ). There were no probs then and the driver is a LOON!!

:P to you ya muppet!
Out of interest Kev, someone said you could lap Donno in a standard Escort Cossie in 1min 30secs, which I couldn't believe. Can you confirm/deny this?

Ha ha! Got you! The same person actually told me it was a 330 conversion and not a standard car. Big up to mr Atkins!

Craig.
Come on, 1min 30secs is average around Donno, which is why I don't believe a std Escort Cossie would manage it!

Hi there,
Ian (Godspeed), can you offer a seperate disc and ali bell replacement for the one-piece Prodrve/Alcon setup? If so how much?
E-mail me offline if you wish to.

Disc dimensions are 330mm diameter
28mm Width.

p.s. could not find the other thread.

Cheers
