Does this indicate that the disk is running too hot due to the pads 'cooking'? This happens after moderate/hard use. I am running 325mm disks with EBC Greens and Brembo calipers. Should I upgrade to Reds?

Iain , It shows they are working !! , If your pads are fading then you should upgrade pads , the blue on the discs is heat , if you do a few miles 'normal' driving they will lose there blueness until you give it some grief again , Ian

I'm not getting fade (I don't think) but am worried that the metal is being hardened! Obviously not a good idea. The greens are working well now and don't want to go to Reds 'cos of the cold performance - don't want the wife to get caught out!

Discs going blue is a sign of over heating, and normally getting very hot very quickly. If they are performance discs, they must have had serious grief to turn blue. Mine never did even after track stints.

The blue-ing isn't a major problem, but check for tiny cracks - that IS a problem

..plus

EBC greens are only a fast road pad, and are a bit on the light side for hard use with a big brake conv. - for a brembo kit I would go for pagids/1155/1166/or go for brembos own.

I was driving on a very twisty 5/6 mile stretch of A road. The brake performance was good but thought the blueing might cause damage. I guess if I tried a hotter pad the blueing would still be there, so I think I have the ideal pad for fast road use. The Brembo pads that came with the kit are absolute sh1te!!! They would fade similar to standard pads on my standard discs. There were extremely kind on the disks though! Although you say that Greens are not for hard use, I would imagine that running larger disks with much better heat dissipation will let the pads operate at lower temps - if I start getting fade then I think I will upgrade.

Rovo.
I was just about to say that on my AP's the blueing is normal and shows the discs have been bedded in properly.
This may not be the case with all other discs though.

Your discs will go blue if they get hot enough , if they dont go blue the pads are not working at higher temps and fading , If they are not fading and are working well then you have the ideal set up for your car , Cheers , Ian

My discs (not AP) from experience do turn blue depending on the amount of braking without fading or stressing them to much (just as explained on the apracing-site), so I take it the AP discs are not an exception and the discs turning blue is a sign they are working properly.
