Which bloody pads ???

I'm sure this topic has been covered a million times, so here it goes again....
I have a 1993 WRX (Import).I have just changed the pads, this is where fun has began. Firstly the local garage supplied my UK spec pads (too narrow and too thin) now I have the apparent correct ones ( Lockheed LP 0930), problem is now the pads are braking on the disks surface that has never been touch before ( Oh ere LOL). I stupidly threw the set in there out, so god only knows what they were. The Lockheed fit the caliper carrier perfectly so they look correct, I just cannot understand why the disk is not worn to fit this pad. Is there a pad that has the same back plate as the lockheed LP0930 but with a smaller pad area ?Any suggestions ???
Another quick question, the wear indicator tab (fitted on the inside pad), should this be at the top or bottom of the carrier ?
I appreciacte any help you could give.
I'm tempted to find somewhere that can recut the disks surface because it appears that the wrong pads have been used in there before.

I think I had a similar problem when I got new EBC pads & discs last year. Apparently there are two sizes of pad <I> and </I> disc which were fitted to early WRXs/Turbos.

The small pads fit into the same calipers, but have a slightly smaller back plate, and a much smaller pad area.
I spotted that my pads were too small (although I had the correct discs), and exchanged them before fitting the new discs. However, it sounds like you may have been running with the smaller pads for some time - in which case you have two options:-

1. re-skim the discs flat, so your pads can bed in properly, or
2. buy a new set of discs.

I guess the option would depend on how much wear your current discs have.
