Are the pads EBC greens, reds etc, seem to remember a recent thread regarding the thickness of the paint EBC use.
If not, try taking the pads out and cleaning the slots left with fine emery/wire wool/wire brush, screwdriver - usually works for me.
BTW be careful not to 'nick' the rubber gaiters on the pistons - MOT failure and a pain to replace.

Question for Impreza experts.
Noticed the other day that the front inside brake pads (on a MY96, 2 pot)
were very stiff, i.e. I had to lever them off with a screwdriver, and bash
them back in with a hammer. Is this wrong or is it OK ??, the outside pads
slide on and off no problem. The callipers do still have the silver clips
on them (anti squeal) which the pads slide onto, the pads are EBC and were
fitted recently by a local garage.
Help needed cos I'm concerned that the pads are not moving properly with the
callipers.

Welcome to the world of the EBC pad user . Whoever puts the paint on the pads is a bit heavy handed and you have to scrape the paint out of the grooves where the pads slide with a penknife or similiar . You may also find that the anti-squeal shims don't fit properly and also require some paint removal . This seems to happen on all pads as I've fitted 2 front sets , 1 green & 1 red , and one rear set ( green ) to my car and they have all required some paint removal to get them to fit .

Cheers for the replies, took the pads out and cleaned the paint off with emery cloth, and gave the callipers a damned good clean, put it all together and the pads now slide in and out easily.
The pads were obviously sticking as the brakes are much better now.
