Question

Hi,
I had set SO2's with about 1000 miles on and gripped realy really well on the road with little or no under steer.
After 2 Donny trackdays creamed 2 out of four with under steer, fitted two new at Castle Coombe and now getting real bad on the road
Do they bed in or and get better or has the Quality gone down due to SO3's comming out?

Cool

Hi Tony,

I have discovered that about 1000 miles running in is needed before they really grip. However I suspect that because they were new for Castle Coombe you probably over heated them and caused a bit of rubber melt therefore degrading the performance. Stick with them or put them on the back!

Wink

Fizz,

Cheers they have only had road use, so I better be a bit gentle on them till I get to 1000 miles
Or I'll put the on the back and thrash I mean drive normally

Remember that putting them on the back will reduce the amount of grip the back of the car has - oversteer will be a distinct possibility!

I found my SO2s to be a bit slippery for the 500 miles, or so. Take it gently for a while, just to be safe.

If you run in they are exceptionally grippy normally... and good in the wet n all. I'm sure the S03 will be even better but these are a fine cover

We have SO2's on a C70 GT @ work. They seem to need about 500-750 miles before they start to give their best - something to do with the release agent used during the moulding/manufacturing wearing off i believe

The harder you push the tires the sooner the top layer will have worn off, just be carefull not to push too hard, increase it bit by bit. This way in 500 km or so from new the tires will be oke. The Bridgestones S02 PP are the only tires I know off that need so long to "rub" in.

I invested in a set of buffered (takes a few mm off all round) S02's for track use, grip was very impressive at Oulton last week, found them a bit more fun than using slicks.

Hope you are well Tony, i proberly won't see you for a while i have just invested in a House. House + Car + Trackdays = Something has to go, ah well give me six months i will be back.

Matt,
Saw some pic's of oulton on the net car looked good. I went round a corner on Worcester road at 6 - 7 Krpm (about 60mph )in top. Normally no problem the new SO2's felt like crossply's, massive understeer and oh Sh********t the kerb was looming . Feathered throttle and scoob will live for another day Phew

see you at Trax 2001 hopefully if your house is sorted

Tony
