I have a MY98 UK Terzo and the brakes are fairly crap. I have had some uprated pads put on that I got from Subaru UK, however these still fade when braking quite hard from 130mph (several times) and from cold are not very good at all....

Therefore, my question is: What options do I have to help resolve this issue (without spending over £500 pounds???).

Is it a matter of replacing the discs or just getting some better pads like Mintex, that are more for fast driving use??

I suggestions will be appreciated....

Thanks
Mark

Mark, I assume that you're a keen track day driver, and a damn fast one at that, to be doing repeated stops from 130mph. If so, you're looking at a full system upgrade and at least £1,500.

If I've misunderstood, please repost with some more info.

Mark,

Pads and discs will give you a bit more bite but won't improve the fade by much as this is being caused by the cast iron calipers and their reluctance to disipate the heat. Only alternative is to do the full upgrade as Richard says to Alu calipers ie Prodrive/AP/Brembo.

MD,
For £500 you should be able to get some 2nd hand 4pots [MY99on],new Black diamond discs,Mintex 1144's and Dot 5 brake fluid which should all help your braking considerably.

Thumbs up

I'd also recommend the DS4003 setup from TSL

Has improved my Legacy B4 no end from the standard 2 pot setup - and coped with Cadwell last week with no problem. (Which is more than I did - if anyone spotted me on the grass after Charlies. I was out with an instructor at the time, so that's my excuse)

My first track day, so I wasn't as fast as the regulars, but still gave the brakes plenty of work....

Those prices are ex. VAT, so will probably cost you more like £750 with a set of 4 pots though

Ed

Braking will be improved a bit but if you are using these "enthusiastically" you will suffer major fade as your current set up because the calipers are made from the same cast iron as your current two pots.
Personally this is £500 not well spent as I think you will be disapionted with the lack of improvement.

Wink

Thanks gents

I'm glad you are all happy with your brakes. We are pretty chuffed with that set up too!

Try running a set of DS2000 in the rears and get ready to suffer seat belt bruising!

Cheers

Question

Glad somebody has mentioned the rear pads - but I've heard the DS2000 give off a lot of brake dust that gets into the rims?

Do Pagid / EBC have the same problem?

From other threads, I don't think DS2000's are that bad. DS3000's on the other hand have a metallic compound and the red-hot dust melts into your alloy wheel laquer and is a bitch to clean. This last bit I know from bitter personnal experience. They also f**k your discs up big time.

My DS2000s are generating a lot more dust than the OEM pads or the EBC Greens I used to use. Then again they stop tons quicker
