I have the aforementioned tyres - minimal road noise, very good grip in the wet and dry, and reasonably priced. Very happy with them.

Thumbs up

I have them on my RB5. I have just done 19k and was told today at it's service that i need to replace them. I was very happy with them, lots of tread, but I don't want to pay the price. The dealer suggested Pirelli 240's

I've just used my second set of 17 inch PZeros. I haven't had any problems with them, though I sometimes thought there should have been more grip in the wet.

Seems to be a general consensus on here that the Bridgestone SO2's are better than the PZeros, especially in the wet.

Matt,

Try a set of Toyos.

I'm sure a local trye dealer can come up with some better prices than the main Scoob dealer.

With reference to this topic and the post made by SteveB in the 'advice on rubber' topic I decided to get my calculator out.

Standard footwear is 205/50 on 16 (MY99&00) which equates to a total circumference of 508.9
Prodive preferred footwear is 205/45 P0s on 17 = 524.05
SO2s 215/40 on 17 = 517.8

Leaving tread/compound aside I presume on 17' rims SO2s should be the better fit as the overall circumference is closer to the original (SteveB's point) - assuming it is better to match the overall circumference of the tyre and wheel than the width of the tyre (& anyway in the SO2 case > width = > grip ?)

Would not the best tyre on a 17' rim be 205/40 (does it exist?). Same width & closer still to the original overall circumference.

Something tells me I'm playing the science card too much, especially seeing I know zip about wheels and tyres!!

Comments please.

OK so I was no good at maths - I forgot to multiply the tyre width by two, doh!
So does Prodrive fit P0s because of their connection with Pirelli or because they think they are the better tyre

I'm running Pzeros on 17" P1 wheels. They're better than RE010 16" by quite a way - no tramlining, more predictable grip.

Dry grip is excellent, but wet grip seems a tad low. In either condition, I'd say that they're more predictable than the RE010s.

Being a fashion victim, I'll try S02s next as hopefully they're coming down in price due to S03s being available - a 15% reduction has just been announced in the USA, apparently!

Nick.

Generally agree with consensus.
Great dry grip, with smooth break away.

In the wet forget them.

I tried following RichR (wearing SO2's) around a fairly wide 100 degree right in the wet (it was snowing but not laying). The video shows we are travelling at the same speed (60ish) on the same line. Only one of us made it round the corner, and it wasn't me.

Cool

I've been looking for tyres for my RB5WR for a little while now as they are becoming a bit skittish in the wet

Best quote so far is for Toyo Proxy T1 - S in 205/40 - 17.....£80.45 a corner all in from Jet Tyres on Canvey Island 01268 511161. I've not used these tyres before but they have received good responses from other users on the BBS so they may well get fitted in the very near future. For a Toyo dealer near you go to

I have decided to go with the majority and get SO2's for my RB5. I have got a local tyre dealer to fit 4 for £436 inclusive.
