Question

Looking for some help here.
Long trip last week - coming near home and speeding slightly, well a lot. Going downhill and coming up to a bend put progressive pressure on brakes. Started to feel shuddering coming through the wheel(it was not the ABS). After the bend tried light braking again and was fine but when I was heavy on the pedal again it came back. Got EBC pads on and newish but bedded in.
Any ideas anyone??
Cheers

Alas
Mornin'May i ask how old is your car?
I have gone through two sets of disks on my MY 99 @ 17K miles each time!

Your problem sounds like warped disks - this only rears it's ugly head under breaking - usually hard breakng.

Gary
Had a read at your thread and seems may be a intermittent prob as I will not be on track days. Good info though

Paul
Car is a MY97 and had the rear discs replaced last year. No idea what the rear pads are. Front discs I have no idea whether original or not. Car has done 50k. Problem has not appeared again yet but not had a long fast run since.

Alas

Mine is also intermitent (it happened once then once the disks were cooled down it hasn't happen since). I have not managed to reproduce it on the road - but this sounds exactly the same as your symptoms to me, ie it only happens when the disk is hot ?

Anyway, the net result is you have warped disks (as have I !). My original MY98 Disks only lasted 50K (front) 40K (rear) so it looks like you were on the way to having to replace them anyway, I think you'll find it much more likely it is the front disks that have actually warped however.

Higher friction pads (eg your EBC) will show the problem up sooner simply because you are able to brake harder and therefore heat the disks up more.

Replace the disks, or if your Insurance co allow look at some kind of brake upgrade IMO
