Afternoon all,
I have just (last Friday) had the wheels and brakes sorted on my P1.
The 18" look and feel great!
The brakes also look and feel great....
The question is (and possibly aimed at Mike Wood) what sort of bedding in should I be doing....???
As at present they feel a little spongy....and are no where near as sharp as I expected.
Don't get me wrong...if I need to stop....then they work perfectly....tho so far I haven't had to use them in anger!!!
Any comments would be appreciated.
Cheers
Tom

I am suprised that you were not given this info when you picked the car up, seems a shame really.
I uprated my disks and pads (EBC kit) recently and got a nice little leaflet with running in instructions and the chaps that changed them also 'briefed' me on how to run 'em in.

Hi Rum,
it may be interesting to see if you have had braided hoses fitted whilst you brakes were replaced. These (I believe) can help to keep feel in the pedal when the brake fuild gets warm. I think the std hoses (on any impreza...not just the P1) can be prone to some expansion when hot.
It may also be interesting to determine which brake fluid was used.
I have braided hoses, DOT 5.1 fluid.
I think this may be a characteristic of the progressive feel of the brakes. If you need to press hard...they WILL stop you again and again.
Make sure you follow the bedding instructions to ensure your disks and pads have a happy life together.
I am also much happier now I have DS2000 pads fitted. The previous pads (which ma have been DS3000s) have caused a certain amount of contamination on my PD7 wheels (I kind of dark brown/red which is grafted into the wheel enamel and won't shift)
I am sure Mike Wood can offer a more product specific explanation.
Oh...insurance up for renewal on the 24th of this month...could you maybe drop me a line sometime soon
Regards
Ian.

If it's more you want...
EBC kit
Disks 600 mile or so of gemntle braking (emergency stops excluded) or 'till the gold coloured coating has gone from the surface, the pads n3ed 150 miles ofr so to bed in dependant on youer driving style.
I hope that you do not think that i was trying to be clever (heaven forbid!), just my experience. I just seems a shame that you spend all that monety on an upgrade and they do not take the time to explain the 'ground rules'.
Have a good 'un

Ian,
Basically the point is I have not received any instructions as to how to bed them in...unsure whether braided hoses and equally unsure of the brake fluid...I picked the car up on Friday night and as yet have not been able to speak to Nigel at the garage.
Cheers

Paul,
Wasn't thinking you were trying to be clever ....I know you are already
I agree about the ground rules!
Thanks for that....I will try the garage again and see if there were any idiot proof instructions from Prodrive ... re the braided hoses etc...I wouldn't know what to look for
Cheers

There are comprehensive fitting and bedding in instructions with the brake kit which the dealer should have left in the car for you.
The basic bedding process involves doing a few miles of 'normal' driving to allow the discs and pads to get a proper mating surface. You will notice during this period that the pedal feel improves.
You should then gradually build the heat up into the brakes with several medium applications from 60 down to 30mph and allow the brakes to cool by driving without using them.
Repeat using more pedal pressure until finally do as many emergency stops as your insides will take.
You must ensure that you give the brakes sufficient time to cool and warm up again.
The enemy of any bedding in process is getting too much heat into everything too quickly so avoid full use until you have bedded them in properly.

Mike
