BBS Electras? STi wheels? and other wheel advice sought

Those of us in North America who are anticipating, finally, getting an Impreza turbo and want to run 17" wheels have only one "factory" choice: they look like BBS Electras, in 17x7. Prices not yet announced, but it is said they will be expen$ive. Does anyone know anything about these wheels, eg metallurgy, manufacturing process, durability, weight?
Has anyone had experience with the older STi forged 5-spoke 17" wheels?
Finally, any advice concerning aftermarket wheels and optimal offsets (ET 48-53?) would be greatly appreciated.
I would also appreciate any suggestions for a strong, light wheel wide enough available her
