Question

The front 260mm dia discs on my legacy are worn out and I can get new genuine discs very cheap . I want to upgrade the pads to something suitable for the road and track days which will not destroy the discs .
Which would be more suitable , 1144's or 1155's , or is there any other make of pad would do . I was tempted to go for the EBC kit but heard that they are no good on the track . Any suggestions appreciated .

Prodrive used to suggest 1155 for fast road use before they switched to Ferodo. They're good pads, if a little dusty, and can sometimes squeal. Don't know about 1144, but 1166 would not really be suitable for road use.

Anything 'above' 1144s (or EBC Greens/DS2000s) runs the risk of cracking standard discs, but you will need something above 1144s to survive more than a few laps on track.

If road only, 1144s (or equivalent) will be fine, if you are planning to go on track, then 1155s and uprated discs are the best option without laying out £1500 on APs/Brembos etc

Hi,
I was in a similar dilemma a couple of months ago, after reading the SIDC FAQ I was going to get the 1155s from mintex, I decided to call Prodrive and talked to one of the engineers he said that the 1155s aren't suitable for road use, they don't recommend them any more, called mintex they said 1155s not for road use (they take too long to warm up), I eventually bought the 1144s from PE. The prodrive guys said they weren't much of an upgrade from the standard MY99 pads but they are defintely better. From cold they work well (a must on our sunny isle) and are more postive with a bit of heat in them, will do my first track day in the spring so we'll see how they stand up. But I have to respect the opinion of prodrive and the people who make the pads!! BTW the mintex pads are VERY dirty on me speedlines

Andy ,
Are you going down to Kirkiston on 18/2/01 ? If so I'll see you there . Should have my brakes sorted by then and a s/s exhaust system fitted . We'll compare stopping distances !!

I guess if Mintex say that 1155s are not for the road then using them is likely to cause insurance problems in the event of a accident.
