Default Quick guide to swapping brakes needed please - calipers incl.

Best way to do it?

If I disconnect the calipers and let all the fluid run out. Then refit new calipers. Refill then pump the brake pedal until solid. Then bleed?

Or is that just the totally wrong way to do it?!?!

Default Customscooby

Not sure about the scooby, but when i had the Golf gti many moons ago i replaced the callipers. I used mall grips with cloth around the ends to pinch the brake pipe instead of draining the fluid. It is a good option to drain though as this would clean the system and then bleed them once refilled and done.
As i havnt attempted on mine yet then i dont really know on the scooby.

You can use molegrips, but don't be too harsh on the pipe, you could use something soft inside the jaws! you don't want to chafe (sp) the pipe!.
then remove old caliper and fit new one.
OR, unbolt old one, and fit new one, THEN disconnect the hose, and fit straight onto the new caliper, that way you don't 'have' to use a clamp, but you will loose a bit of fluid, but you're gonna do that anyway!

Ron.

ps, make sure you put the bleed nipple at the top!!! you'd be amazed at how many don't!!
