Question

I can't find the thread that mentioned this so I thought I'd ask again:

I'm sure I read somewhere that the brake dust from carbon-metallic pads can damage alloys - was this a spurious comment or is there any truth behind it?

I have just bought some Mintex 1155 fast-road pads but before I fit them I want to check that the brake dust won't damage my new 17's (Cheers Steve )

Any advice/a 'once and for all' answer would be much appreciated.

Steve,
I have 1155's on my car and on 1 set of wheels (Radius R3's) had lots of corrosion which appeared to be due to brake dust. After damaging 2 of the wheels I replaced them all with Speedline GT1's and while I still find that the dust is difficult to wash off I have as yet had no corrosion. I now think that some wheels are just better finished than others and if you clean them properly and then maybe wax them to add protective layer, you'll have no problems.
