Vibrating brakes on brand-new STi6 typeR
#1
Finally the run in period of new car is over....but quite dissapointed to find a problem with the brakes.
Braking from motorway speed quite hard (but nowhere near hard enough to lock up) results in some vibration felt through the brake pedal and slightly through the wheel.
What do you think most likely problem?
1. Cracked discs (cant see any scoring, but not had the wheels off yet)
2. Defective pads
3. Wheels not balanced correctly
4. Alignment problem
... anthing else I should get the dealer to check?
I know it's not the ABS since the typeR doesnt have any.
The car has only done 1100 miles and I have been very careful not to brake hard until now. And then only after a number of slow speed stops did I first try braking hard from high speed.
Read a number of posts regarding defective MY99 discs -- anyone know if this problem been rectified with MY00 cars?
Also can hear a clunking noise from the calipers when reversing and braking. Although I've seen posts saying this is normal I never had this on my old STi4.
Cheers
Andy

I've always said u can fry the MY99 (00) brakes with one good hard application. I braked the other day, quite hard from about 85/90 and they are rumbling away already.
On 2nd set, so will soon be asking for third.
Discs are compltely crap and IMHO totally unsuitablbe for use in the UK.
JDPower for MY99 cummin up soon
