Unhappy

Hi poeple, I just replaced my new greenstuff front barke pads, new
slot brake disc, Goodridge SS barke line, and Motul 600 high temp.
barke fluid! After all , I still feels my brake doesn't change much
at all, my machenic told me it may be the problem of the master
cylinder!!
Does anyone do on the master cylinder?? my car is a 92 Legacy turbo
and has 200,000 km now and never change the master cylinder before,
will it be the problem that comes from?? And how much will the master
cylinder cost? Better buy from the dealer or aftermarket? Will it
hard to install by myself?
People, please help!!

Hi Lam,

Let me start by saying I have no experience of Legacys and I don't recall hearing anything about the brakes on older Legacy models. My comments are based on the Impreza, but they may help you.

I'm not quite sure from your post what the problem with your brakes is. If you have a soft/spongey brake pedal then the master brake cylinder could be contributing to this. On the Impreza the brake cylinder tends to flex (or twist) when you apply pressure to the brakes. People try to fix this by fitting a support bracket to hold te cylinder firmly in place and prevent this flexing. If the braking performance is a problem then it might be that you have the older sliding caliper brakes fitted to UK Imprezas up until 1998. I changed mine for the current 4-pot calipers (with Pagid pads) and noticed a substantial improvement in braking performance.

One last comment is that I think I heard one or two people saying they weren't happy with the EBC greenstuff pads. On the other hand there may be many very happy users out there too. Just a thought anyway.
