Question

After a track day on Sunday, I removed my front pads to check for damage/wear.

I dont know how much of the pad is there for wear, and how much is backing material. I didnt measure it, but there is about 8mm on top of the metal back plate.

I noticed several fracture lines in the pad. Do these fractures mean the pads are scrap or are they commonplace?

For my next track day, I wanted to get harder pads. Can i fit harder pads without upgrading the discs to a harder/alternative material?

Whats the concensus on the best pads? and how do I get the rear pads out? - do I have to remove the caliper?

Thanks

Sul

Harder pads can be used (eg Mintex 1155) and performance benefit is quite a step up, but standard discs have a habit of cracking when used with harder pads that can take higher temperatues, and the benefits/improvements to be had from also upgrading the discs make it a worth while consideration!

Hi SUL

I`am running on standard rotors with 1155 pads. Brake perfomance is better but after 10 000km /cca. 6200ml/ it`s over. Front rotors are completly weared.

Sul,
Fitted Mintex 1155 pads to front but warped discs after about 5000mls.
Have now fitted crossed drilled and groved front discs with a new set of Mintex pads and the difference is amazing.
Speak to Falkland Performance for a good price on the pads.(£66.00 +vat)

I had the same experience as Grant / Erik - put 1155's on and the disks were warped in around 4000 (road) miles.....

Thanks

Gavin
