17" Toyo Proxes -problem?
#1
I have done around 600 miles on new Proxes T1-S and have noticed that the nearside tyres (especially front one) have roughly a 4-5mm chamfered edge to the outside ribs compared to about 1-2 mm on the driver's side. I thought maybe this was due to cornering more to the right (i.e roundabouts). Has anyone else noticed this and is this right? Tyre pressures are 34 front, 32 rear.

I have noticed a similar problem on my 16" toyo's.
It reminds me of what happens to my bike tyres after a track day.
I've done a lot more miles than you, about 5000 i think, but im amazed how badly they are getting cut up now.

got the Prodrive settings. Saw an MR2 in the car park at work (new shape) and it had similar wear, so I guess it must just be the design. Perhaps I need to find a few faster left-handers!

Iain,
As you can see from my address, I live in the magic kingdom of roundabouts, have 17" Toyos and my tyres have worn more on one side (by 1mm) but there has been no breakdown whatsoever.
I would agree with Stef - I would say it is the tracking/balancing or tyre pressures to blame for it.
Thanks
Gavin

The Prodrive settings (1.25deg'neg'camber) are a compromise. Too much neg', and you will ware the inside edges, too little, and the outside edges suffer.
If you do a lot of motorway miles, your a bit stuffed, but if most of your driving is limited to A/B roads, try 1.75~2 deg' neg'. Some of us are up to 2.5 degrees.
Mark.

I have found that my Toyos seem to wear quickly on the outside as well. If its happening to a few people it would seem not to be a problem with the tyres, more likely a problem with the drivers' right foot!
