Question

Took my car in for service today, and the mechanic informed me of heat cracks in the pads.Obviously had them changed. Quite worrying to say the least. Has anyone else experianced this? MY99 with 22.5K on the clock and no track days.

Martin,

MY99. My pads were replaced at 20k, the passenger side ones had started to break up, but they were all about knackered anyway.

Its just as well I had a problem with my disks (stress cracks) otherwise I was going to wait for the wear indicators before swapping my pads and would never have known there was a problem. Wouldn't have liked to have been braking hard when a pad broke up.

I have had lots of problems with heat cracks on pads and hairline discs from normal road driving. These have been replaced under warranty. In 22k miles I am now on my 3rd set of discs and 4th set of pads on warranty. I believe that you should not pay for the replacement. Have the new pads checked at the next service -if they are cracked again they will be replaced FOC.

Hope this helps

Julian

Cheers guys
I'll keep me eye on them. I think I may consider getting an upgrade anyway when I can get some cash!!
