Can anyone out there give me some info about fitting new brakes on my car?
I've allways done this on my other cars, but I allways had a trusty haynes manual to reley on for advice.
I had a look at the brakes today and it appears the disks are held by the nut in the middle rather than by a small screw as on all the cars I've had in the past.If I undo this to remove the disk will the wheel bearing etc come off to or will the disk come off on it's own.
I'm going to use Greenstuff pads with group 'N' disks up front and O.E. disks on the rear.Any other ideas for a value for money fast road setup most welcome.
Car is a UK 95 Turbo.

Do not remove the centre nut!
The discs pull off once the wheel is removed. They may need some persuasion though as they corrode. I used a rubber mallet gently.
I believe there is a tool for easy disc removal which fits into the two small threaded holes. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

YOUNG GED,
I have a MY96 Turbo and I just changed the front disks and pads the other week, heres how to do it.
1)Jack up and remove wheel
2)turn steering so you get easy access to caliper.
3)Remove bolt from bottom of caliper (14mm Spanner) and swing rear part of caliper up, you may need to "persuade" it. You may want to tie it up.
4)Remove pads, they slide out to the sides.
5)Swing rear part of caliper back down and loosely fit bolt.
6)Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place (17mm Spanner) and pull caliper clear, tie it up to the coil.
7)Slide disk off, it may need "persuaded"
8)Clean everything with a wire brush or emery cloth, especially the hub.
9)Clean new disk to remove the protection grease.
10)Fit new disk
11)Follow steps 1 to 6 in reverse order remember to use copper grease or the new pads will squeal like little piggies.
Hope this helps.

Thanks to sasim's post I've just attempted to fit EBC pads and discs to my MY93 WRX. However, I've found that the backplate on the EBC Greenstuff pads is smaller than the pads which I have just pulled off.
Is this because the EBC pads have a smaller back plate, or is it something to do with the ABS which my car has fitted?
The new pads fit, but I'm a bit worried at the change in area. Comments please.........

I fitted my greenstuff pads and new disks yesterday and the pads are identical as I had to remove the shims from the old pads and they fitted perfectly to the greenstuff ones.
Have you got the right pads ?
I got mine from demon tweeks and while there the assistant told me there are SEVEN !! differant styles of pad for the Impreza.
They went and checked my car while I was there to make sure I had the right ones.
Hope this helps.
Regards

I've spoken to EBC, and they reckon I've got the wrong pads (new ones in the post). There appears to be some confusion over the size of the discs/pads for 92-94 WRXs:-
There are two sizes quoted - approx. 260mm & 270mm dia discs, and associated pads to fit. (The smaller size pads incidentally, were common across the whole Jap Impreza range from 1.6 to WRX!) I asked for the larger discs (which are correct fo my car) but somehow got sent the smaller sized pads! Doh!
Anyway, while the smaller pads do fit, I shall wait for the correct size to appear before I attempt to drive the car off the driveway.
Cheers for you help,
Dave

I have now fitted the *correct* size pads to my car, but the o/s calliper is stiff, and one of the pads is continually dragging on the disc.
Is there a recognised way of lubricating the calliper so it slides more freely, or do I just have to 'waggle' it for several mins to try to loosen it off some more??
