Exclamation

As the track season closes in, may I suggest that those of you who are considering purchasing new tyres and attending the next Donington track day on March 5th, perhaps consider using the services of 'Tyres Northampton' who hope to be in attendance again.
They are among the best prices you will find anywhere, and it means you will be able to 'kill' your existing rubber on track and go home on a new set.
They were very happy with the last event, and it is more of a service than a money-making venture.
We need to support them, as they offer valuable on-site services such as wheel changing, hydraulic jacks, brake pad changing, etc, and could be the difference between you getting home or not.
Could anyone interested in getting new or part-worn tyres from them on the day please call Mark or Malc on 01604 588599 and they'll do the best they can for you.
Many BBS users have travelled to them for tyres and I'm sure they would all highly recommend their services.
Thanks in advance for your support.

Stef.

Question

Stef
Intend to run at Donington this time rather than stand and watch you boys have all the fun!
Have as set of standard 16" silver Subaru alloys that I intend to use with an old set of Bridgestone RE010's on. Was going to drive up on them, trash them on the track and get your boys to give me a new set for the journey home.
Does this sound like a good plan? (Bit of a novice at this track lark - never done it before in my own car!).
If so, any suggestions for replacement tyres? Which do you think would be best to go for?
I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me on the matter Stef.
Cheers

Neil,
The last meet at Donnington was my first track event. Like you, I had worn RE010 on standard 16in alloys.

Ruined the RE's on the track but had ordered S02PPP in advance from Stef's tyre friends. Excellent service, excellent price and scrubbed them in on the way home.

Up to you on choice of tyre, but I can recommend the service provided.

Cheers for the comments. I think I will book the tyres with the lads. Only used the RE010's for a couple of months in the summer and they scrubbed pretty bad, so I hate to think what 30 odd laps of Donny will do to them.
Thanks again David, and hopefully see you there in March.

Neil.

As David has already said, your idea seems the most sensible one. Tyre choice really is up to you, but Toyo Proxes or SO2's seem to be the most popular.
Personaly, I'd swing towards the Toyo's.
Just give them a ring.

Hey Neil,
I had Continental Contisport contacts on mine at Donnington. They were brand new on the day and they have loooads of tread even now. You just got to remember that Donnington is real hard on the left hand tyres of the car and coming in every 4-6 laps will solve any excessive tyre cooking.

They charge £115 + vat per tyre, either for 215/40's or 215/45's, fully fitted inc valve and balancing etc.

Stef.
PS I'm sure they'll give you a recepit too!!

Why bother with a VAT receipt when you can deal in hard cash Jay, and negotiate a further discount!

Does anyone want a spare tyre for free - its situated round my waist at the moment!........LOL

No-one's asked yet, but they've quoted me £84.85 all-in per corner for Toyo Proxes 205/50ZR16, so I'll be popping by.

Don't forget, if anyone wants to change their road tyres for a set of part worns for the day, this can also be arranged.
You will need to ring and reserve a set asap though.
I believe the cost for this, including changing the tyres over and then putting yours back on afterwards (inc balancing, etc) is about £70.
Much cheaper than ONE new tyre.

Mick.

It's completely free for spectators, so come along.
I always drive with fogs/sides on at track days and I agree, looks ace. I actually do it so my friends in the pits know it's me!!!
Have a look on the cover of the 'Scoobytrax' video and you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, the tyre van is filling up, so thanks to all those that have placed orders.
Anybody else who's interested call soon.

Question

Stef

Above you quote 17" SO2s @ £115+VAT, in another post today you quote £480 for 4 all in - which is it? I have a friend from Derby who if they will do it for £480 will have a set, but if it is £115+VAT (ie £540 all in) he will get them from Wigan for £499 as it is equi-distant for him.

Thanks

Sorry Gary, my mistake.
£540 inc vat is the right price for 17's.
I spoke to my mate and he said that's an exceptional price for 17" Pole Positions.
Just make sure they are PP's though.

Cheers Stef - yes they are PPs, I checked that before they were fitted to my car - Yorkshireman making a saving! bound to put a smile on my face!

Incidentally - have you ever driven on 'normal' SO2s? I had both normal and PPs on my previous cars, the PPs are better in the wet, but normal are a better dry tyre!
