Question

The brake warning light on MY94 comes on every so often now more often that not.

I have heard from different people that

a) it's that the brake fluid level is low

or

b) the brake pads need changing

Any info woul dbe greatly appreciated.

Victor,

Not sure about the MY94, but my MY98 has an audible wear indicator for the pads (i.e. they squeak/granch) when they get worn down.

A dash light is more likely to be a low level in the brake fluid reservoir.

Cheers,

Alex

Cars have a "squeaky noise" as indicator for worn pads, it's not electronic. Light is for something else other than worn pads!

Exclamation

if it's the abs warning light and it resets if you turn off the ignition then it might just be dirty sencers.

Question

Victor,

Probably not pads and you Should be able to check the fluid levels quite easily to rule that out.

If it's an intermitent problem and does not seem related to the actual application of the brakes then it's more likely to be an electrical problem. Contacts & connectors can get loose or oxidized and may cause a fault in the ABS circuit. This will cause the ABS system to shutdown and hence the warning light come on.

Take it down to your local Subaru Dealer and they should be able to plug the diag. computer in and locate the area of fault.
