Unhappy

Help - Does anyone know of any "wonder product" that can be used to mask a small scuff mark I made in my rear near side alloy last night? It's not a particularly deep or nasty scratch. I spent all Wednesday night "Zymol-ing" to get the car looking like brand new again (It's only three weeks old however) and now I've got this scratch. What is some good advice?

Thanks,
James

Cool

James,

As its on the outermost rim, careful painting is the answer.

If the damage is not to deep, smooth it off with cutting polish or compound, otherwise go with the finest wet & dry sandpaper (used wet)& don't apply much pressure.

If you have not had to use sandpaper, silver paint applied by a quality modelers paintbrush will work well. I have a tin of Toyota metallic silver from a RAV4 which is a perfect match as well.

If you've had to rub down, consider brush applying a primer first.

As i've said on posts about stonechips, practice makes perfect. Also do the work with the wheel off the car and lying flat - its much easier.

PS- if you're using sandpaper, tape off the areas your not working on, in case you accidently sand other areas at the same time.

Thanks for the reply Scottie. The scratch is right on the outermost rim. I was reversing and scuffed it against a high kerb. It is not too deep but is 3-4 inches long around the circumference of wheel rim. Hope this helps you to help me!

Taken from an old IWOC message that I kept...

"For those who want to touch up silver alloys, Ford Strato code V6 is
spot on."

Hi James,
When in the past I've kerbed my wheels,I've found that if its not to bad you can get a bit of wet and dry, very fine grit 1200 I think.
Use this to get rid of all the rough edges and then touch it in with a matching paint. This has worked for me in the past, hope it helps.
Cheers Dave.
