I've just been reading the brochure for the Prodrive 330mm brake conversion for the Impreza, and noticed they have sneaked a new wheel design in as well

Since I'll probably get asked lots of questions from people who haven't seen the brochure yet, I've copied some quotes and key features….

Prodrive monogrammed lightweight aluminium 4 pot calipers
Prodrive 330mm front discs

Fits with any 99MY WR Sport 17" wheel (including RB5)
Recommended fitting time: 1 hour

Subaru part number SAC2475. RRP £1300+VAT (£1527.50)


The wheel is simply described as 7 x 17" Prodrive 7 Gold, and retails at the same price as the existing wheels (ie £150+VAT each)

It's a 7 spoke design, with the spokes getting thinner as they approach the edge of the rim. Very nice

I guess you contact your local Subaru dealer if you are interested in any of the above.

After a good 7 lap session at Castle Combe over the weekend, I certainly reckon my MY99 brakes could do with any upgrade if track days were a major feature of my driving!

They stood about 3 laps then the pedal went a bit long (although I must say, despite the long pedal, they maintained what I'd reckon about 80% effectiveness).

In the immortal words of Homer J :

The setup is superior because the disks are larger which means a larger surface area for breaking and the calipers are not made of iron which means they can get rid of the heat more easily.

But this system that Prodive has will only fit under 17inch wheels and does not use aluminum bells so they still transfer alot of heat down into the hub which can cause the grease to overheat.

Personally I would say that this kit falls somewhere between the 4 pot setup and a Brembo setup and this has been echoed by comments made by Prodrive themselves.

Can anyone please comment on how this 4 pot set up is larger/superior to the standard MY99 4 pots?

Prodrive 7s are not released till mid-October with dealers supplying later that month. Price for 17" wheels are same as ST2s.
