They are ****e, don't buy them.

I've got 2 Subaru's an MY99 and an MY00 both 4 pots on the front.

The MY00 has EBC Reds on it, when cold you might as well stick you feet out the door and stop it with them (Ok, they're not quite that bad, but you get the picture). They completely lack bite. They're good points are when they are hot they're really good, they don't fade and they have absolutely no brake dust at all. They are probably fabbo on a track but total ****e for the road. People say EBC greens will fade, so I doubt these are any good at all either.

The MY99 has Mintex 1155 (somethin like that??) and these are fantastic, a complete world apart from the EBCs. But my wheels are totally black after only a few days

In general people strongly recommend Ferodo 2500's, next time I change my pads this will be what I'm going for.

Don't confuse the old versions with the new (current) versions. Compounds are completely different. Yes, everyone thought the old ones were crap, but most people seem to rate the new ones very highly.

Also, have you considered using different pads for road and track? Anything else seems a bit of a compromise. Lastly, another fast road pad to consider is Pagid RS4-2.1.

At what point were they changed? Mine are about 3 months old, and they are definately crap. I wouldn't buy them again nor advise anyone else bought them.

Is there an easy way to tell?

Wink

I have never used the Red stuff pads, only Yellow stuff and these were ok, I am now using the Ferodo's and I think they are excellent for my driving style!! Fast and furrious 99.9% of the time.

I am currently testing a few sets of the new compounds as arranged with EBC/ScoobyNet.

Do a search and you will find I was one of the biggest critics of the old compounds.
The new ones are miles better.

There are 2 red compounds now, The Ceramic Reds are very good road pads with good bite from cold, better than the V compound IMO. Also tried the yellows, which seem good too, but haven't done a dry trackday in them to be sure....

DS2500s are good, so are Pagid Blacks

Recommended yes, but I wouldn't personally recommend them to the exclusion of anything else. DS2500 is a good compound, but my personal preference for road use remains Pagid RS4-2 "Blue" or RS4-2.1, both of which give slightly better pedal feel/modulation than the Ferodo material.

I haven't tried the new EBC ceramic Red yet, but might do the next time I change pads on my roadcar.

I'd concur with those comments above about Redstuff's being poor in the MY00, when I had them they were dreadful, although I've not experienced the 'new' compound, once bitten twice shy and all that.

Personally I've used Pagids ever since, both black RS42-1's and blue RS4-2's for both road and trackday use. For road use I'd not use anything else, they're superb, better from cold than OEM, with a much higher working range and certainly better when the country lanes are clear and the temperatures rise ! I've experienced the 'greys' as well, but the disc wear is outweighed by the extra ability IMO. My last set of RS4-2's lasted about 14k and after 2 sets of pads the discs are barely worn. If you do use Pagids though it's best to give the discs a light sandpapering to remove any residual 'memory' from the disc face of the previous pads.

Give John at Performance Braking a call, 01600 713117, He's normally got them all in stock.

HTH

Mike

Thumbs down EBC - DO NOT MIX REDS AND GREENS.

Just before Christmas, i found out that the combination of EBC pads on my Classic were wrong.

I had been advised when purchased to put Reds on the front and Greens on the back. BIG NO ! NO !!!!!!!!!! ( Not purchased from EBC ) With Greens on the back and Reds on the front, means that when braking from cold the Greens work quicker and can cause the back end to lock up.

I met EBC at the Autosports Show, and they explained all this to me and said they would forward me some replacement Reds to go on the back free of charge.

I have E-mailed EBC several times, and they have told me they are on the way ( NOT ) I rang them Tuesday and they said your pads will be with you tomorrow. Later that day i had an Email saying. Pads are out of STOCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry.
