THIS SIZE NOT BEING THAT COMMON IT QUITE PRICEY TO REPLACE .IVE NOTICED 215/40/17 215/45/17 AND 205/40/17 TYRES SEEM TO BE A LOT CHEAPER AND MORE CHOICE.

Implications are rubbing from wider tyres and/or incorrect speedo readings from different diameter tyres. What's the offset of your PCW rims?
Most common sizes for the classic are 205/45/17 and 215/40/17. These give the closest rolling diameter of 16" wheels, so the speedo reads correctly.
As for compounds, I've tried
Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico - decent dry weather grip, predictable and wear very well. Shocking in the wet though
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2 - very good dry and wet weather grip. Softer and wears pretty rapidly
Toyo Proxies T1-S - very good dry grip (Goodyears just have the edge), but wet weather performance is terrible. Very predictable, but grip is lost far too soon. Easy to have fun, but not for pushing hard with a chance of meeting other road users.
Aarron Bird has recently tried some Michellin Pilots and is raving about them. Haven't tried those or any Falkens myself.

THINK THEY MAYBE 52MM THATS WITHOUT CHECKING .ILL HAVE TO GO FOR A GANDER .WILL THE OFFSET BE THE DECIDING FACTOR WITH REGARDS TO CATCHING?THE CARS STILL ON THE STANDARD SUSPENSION .
MY MATE HAS THE F1S AND HE RATES THEM TOO ....THERE AROUND 500.00 FITTED ON 205/45/17(OUCH!)
FALKENS ARE OK IN THE DRY BUT A BIT DICEY IN THE WET BUT FOR A MEDIUM PRICE TYRE THEY RE OK

You can get the Goodyears for around £100 per corner. Fitting/balancing should be another £20-£30 cash from any local fitter.
The offset a extra width would be the deciding factor as to whether they will rub or not. I have 215/40/17's on the RB5 Speedline wheels (don't know offset) and lowered on Eibachs and never had them rub.
If you stick with the two common sizes, I can't see you having a problem.

Toyo tyres no good in the wet?!!???? You cannot be serious, they're fantastic. Compared to Michelin Pilot Sports... well the difference is night and day (plus the Toyos are available at about 60% of the Michelin price (if you shop around).

Id also agree that Toyo's are good in the wet, even in a rear biased TypeR.
The only thing with them is that they can wear quite quickly, but to be honest if a tyre aint wearing, then it aint working as well.
IFAIK know scoobyworld do 4x Toyos delivered for £319.00.
At least I think it was scoobyworld

Sorry, but I still think the grip level of the Toyo's in the wet is far too poor. Maybe it's the road surfaces here in Scotland.
I'm not the only one who has mention their wet performance, so I can't be imagining things. Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but they were certainly nowhere near as good as my Eagle F1's.
Yes, it's Scoobyworld that do the Toyo's for around £80 per corner.

Good prices and test results that seem to marry up with the opinions from people on here. Got some toyos for £74 a corner 215/40/17 they are now at about £70 a corner inc vat and delivery.
A good tyre for the money, much better once they are worn in abit. But still nowhere near as good as my old bridgestone so2's.
I have these fitted to speedlines with ET48's and lowered about 40mm. Only had a tiny bit of rub on the back but if you are running 52-55mm ish offset you should be fine.

look boyos!!!
You need to get your car`s handling sorted out first!!!
The latest Pilot sports that I have are very good trust me.
I only paid £100 a corner which was the same as Nero`s but the Nero`s are not as good in my opinion.
More fun probably as you can slide the car abput on them more.
decide what you want grip or fun
