Thumbs up Michelin Pilot Sports

Very very very very good.
These are the latest ones with what looks like an intermediate outer tread.
Not to be confused with the Cup tyres that are desinged for track use.
From new there is no understeer on my car.
Previous Pirelli Nero`s were terrible from new.
Trust me guys 33 front and 31 rear STI7PPP Prodrive geom the works.
Very happy!!!
Dont think they will last long as they seem very soft but who gives a rats ****

I take it these are not the ones they fit to the M3 CSL and then you have to sign a disclaimer? or are they similar to the Bridgestone RE070?

My mate does have them fitted to his CSL but NO they are not the CUP tyres.
I have 225/40/18`s and their wet weather performance is stunning

I do believe the same but it seems this wheel isn't famous in UK so whenever I say it no one trusts me. This week I'll fit them also in my WRX03 in 225/40/18 with SuperL" we'll see how they drive!

They were around £30 per tyre more than Goodyear Eagles and around £50 more than Toyo's last time I looked at these.

They would really need to be spectacular to justify a very high price tag.

I have paid £100 a corner plus vat.
If you want a number then I can give it to you.
You get what you pay for I suppose
Thats why your not driving a KIA I guess as they are a lot cheaper than Subary`s

Don't throw that "you get what you pay for" or " you drive a Subaru, so expect to pay a lot" thing at me.

I can easily afford them, but why pay £30-£50 more for a tyre that may only offer a slight increase in performance? If I wanted all out performance, I'd buy slicks and take the car on track.

Everything is a compromise, including the price. The cost of tyres is set by the tyre manufacturer not the vehicle manufacturer. If I had a KIA with 17" alloys, then the tyres would be the same.

Pirelli's are around the same cost as the Michellin's yet their performance was **** the last time I had them on my car. I certainly didn't get what I paid for back then. I suppose you got what you paid for when the paint started falling off your P1?

Anyway, enough of me ranting When I priced tyres last week I found the following:-

Goodyear Eagle GSD3 - Blackcircles - £99
Toyo Proxes T1-S - Scoobyworld - £80
Michellin Pilot - Blackcircles - £133

Stefan it appears that you are far more Worldly wise than me mate so you get what you like.
I did a track day last Sat at Bedford on a set of the old style pilot sports that I was given to try. They were part worns.
The new ones are even better. No slippy coating and maximum grip from new.
Me I`m well happy and at £100 a tyre fitted I dont think thats bad value.
I have used F1`s and I think they are crap and my mate has them on his Skyline and they are crap on that too.
SO2`s are good SO3`s sorry not that good.
P-zeros crap and Nero`s ok but not as grippy in all conditions as these Michelins.
More fun on the Nero`s mind you.
ts up to you guys.
Happy understeering!!

Ok, don't spit your dummy

All I stated was the Michellins were considerable more expensive than the current favourites Eagle F1's and Toyo Proxies. I still think that's a fair argument as it's gonna cost a fair bit of money to see if they are every bit as good as you say they are.

So, just to comment that they must be good because the are more expensive doesn't hold much strength IMHO and because I happened to pay good money to drive a Subaru instead of a KIA is completely irrelevant. When people say that it does irritate me somewhat. I'm sorry if I've wound you up the wrong way, but I think I've asked some relevant questions - yes?

I quoted some of the prices I found, but if you have a contact that can get them for £100, then yes that's just as good a price as the Goodyear's that I've had in the past. If you can supply a contact number, I might be persuaded to trust your judgement

Stefan call Ian`s Tyres but they are in Huntingdon Cambridgeshire.01480 458560
He will do Pirelli`s at a very good price too.
Not sure about the other makes that you are interested in.
Good luck.
I dont give a monkeys about the other comments so dont worry.
Generally you should get what you pay for.
The P1 was a piece of crap however I still hear people saying it was the best Impreza ever
People all like diferent stuff I guess.
Me I want a Spec C having had a chance to drive one properly or a JDM 9.

No worries m8 My comments are always tongue-in-cheek, so never read too much into them. I have been known to go off on one every now and again too

Spec C/JDM's seem to have a lot of the compromises dialled into the UK cars removed, so you shouldn't be disappointed.

P1 best ever? hmm, sounds like a marketing phrase to me. How they can say that when the STI 5/6 have been outperforming the UK cars for years is beyond me. Seems if you want a true drivers car these day's you have to look towards the Japanese versions or spend loads modifying the UK ones

Cheers,
Stefan

I know I sound like a doubting-thomas, but I listened to rave reviews with the Toyos and wish I'd never listened to anyone - they're **** in the wet IMHO. Once bitten and all that

The Michellen's get a good report from those links above, yet I found another review on the MyTyres site and they scored less that the Goodyears/Toyo's with quite an average wet weather grip rating.

Tyre performance can be measured scientifically, but their performance in real-life varies according to things like a car's setup and it's ability to exploit the potential of the tyre as well as an individuals driving style and ability.

It's just a pity you can't go and test them somewhere before parting with £400-£500

Vredestein SPORTRAC 2, in my opinion is the best all round tyre you can put on the scooby, great in the dry, really good in the wet, and no matter how hard I drove they never seemed to wear!!! I will be going back to these when I need new tyres!!!

Toyos were fine when introduced 5 years ago - but the world has moved on!

I've just bought some F1 GSD3's and am very impressed with their quietness, but they are almost too progressive ... if you know what I mean!
I look forward to seeing what other people think of the Michelins - but they do sound good .....
