Question STI 8 brake discs (warping issue)

Been in contact with a mate whose asked me to post this on his behalf. Has anyone had a problem with there standard discs warping on their STI 8 after about 11,000-12,000 miles? He's said he's just fitted some new pads, about 11,000 and now car is on 12,000 he has serious brake judder, and believes the discs are warped. Been to local dealer whose said it's because the discs are coming to the end of their life, (4 months off next service) so it's not a warranty issue. He went to the ring last year with 1155's in and loads of time in scotland and hasn’t had any issues at all with the same discs, and is fully aware about warming up and cooling down etc.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Hi mate

Don't know if you noticed the other day, but I had DBA discs on mine. I had to replace them recently due to my fronts being well warped. This was the result of one afternoon on track, and using Pagid RS421 pads on the standard discs.

The standard setup is naf, which is why I tried different pads, then knackered the discs. Now with the DBA discs and Pagid's (still bedding in), but they feel much much better, when warm anyway. Cold not so great.

Hope this helps.

Simon

Oh, 27,000 miles on the clock when changed discs, but probably warped since 26,000. Mostly motorway miles as well.

Cheers

Wink

They were second hand, bought through Snet, for £200 all 4... I'm happy..

Fronts will certainly do until I can afford AP6-pots. Wheels first though

FYI , we make a disc and bell replacement for this set up , they are expensive to buy at £475 a pair , but as you re-use the bells the discs are then £130 each from then on.

Question

Hi Ian,

Just nterested to know if the bells are the same as those used on your 335mm discs for the MY00 Impreza or are they totally different?

Thanks

Jerome

Hi Jerome ,

No they are different , as the discs are different sizes so are the centre holes.

Cheers Ian
