Question Bedding in new pads and discs

Getting new discs (Blackdiamond grooved) and pads (Pagid fast road) fitted tomorrow. Does anyone know what the bedding in procedure is for these. Obviously need to take it fairly easy as don't wanna warp discs.

Any info much appreciated. ta

Many different views on this one, last advice I got was not to use them hard for 500 miles. Previous advice was based on certain number of stops from 30, 50 etc. I had no problems with either method.

FOUND THESE; HOWEVER CANNOT RECOMMEND BREAKING ANY SPEED LIMITS, UNLESS ON A PRIVATE TRACK

Technical Tips - Pad Bedding Procedures
All materials require a bedding procedure of some description and the following information covers the most popular materials we supply.
Mintex:
M1144:
1. Clean discs with brake cleaner or other approved solvent. Fit your new Mintex C-Tech Racing Pads
2. Apply 2-3 light applications of the brakes at 30mph down to 0mph
3. Apply 3-4 steady applications of the brakes at 70mph down to 30mph
4. Leave as long as possible to cool down. They will now work from cold. Do not left foot brake.
M1155
1. Clean discs with brake cleaner or other approved solvent. Fit your new Mintex C-Tech Racing Pads
2. Apply 2-3 light applications of the brakes at 30mph down to 0mph
3. Apply 8-9 steady applications of the brakes at 90mph down 30mph
4. Leave as long as possible to cool down. They will now work from cold. Do not left foot brake.
M1166
1. Clean discs with brake cleaner or other approved solvent. Fit your new Mintex C-Tech racing pads
2. Apply 2-3 light applications of the brakes at 30mph down to 0mph
3. Apply 9-10 steady applications of the brakes at 90mph down to 30mph
4. Leave as long as possible to cool down. They will now work from cold. Do not left foot brake.
M1177

F Series
Perform 12-24 short hard stops. Stops should be done in low gear accelerating to high rpm before applying brakes in a short hard stub. Once a lower rpm is reached the driver should accelerate back to high rpm and repeat procedure 8-10 times. After this, drive a lap to test brakes, return to pits and let brakes cool before bleeding system.

Ferodo:
Perform 25-30 trial brake applications of 4 seconds each and using 50% of normal race pedal pressure. To shorten procedure, application can be made along straights as well as through bends. Then inspect surface of pads from the two hardest working wheels. The pads should show evidence of contact over the whole pads area but without glazing.
To optimise the performance and life of both pads and discs, during the above procedure heat in the braking system should be built up progressively. Brake pads should have at least 2mm of friction material or be replaced.

Pagid:
Perform 3-4 stops with light to medium brake pressure from 90mph to 65mph. Please allow 300-400 metres distance between each brake stop. The pads should not reach temperatures above 300-400 centigrade during bedding in.
Immediately after bedding in at high speed - one stop with medium to heavy brake pressure (without allowing brakes to lock) from 110mph to 65mph. 2-3 recovery stops with light brake pressure. Repeat the above up to twice including the recovery stops. Allow 500mm cooling off distance between high-speed stops. When mounting new pads on used discs, the edges of the pad surface should be filed 45 degrees to ensure that the pad carries fully and evenly and is not touching the edge of the disc.

Performance Friction:
1. Tape up ducts ½ - ¾. Make several slow stops to ensure sufficient pad/disc contact area (typically 80%).
2. Do not left foot brake. Do not drag brakes. Make several firm/hard stops from as high a speed as possible. These stops should be made early, as all pads will exhibit fade until fully conditioned. On light braking circuits extra stops on long straights can be made to speed bedding process. Continue procedure until fade is no longer apparent.
3. Important - make 1 or 2 cooling laps without using brakes.
4. Check temperature paints - discs must have reached peak operating temperatures to be sure of full bedding. Remove tape as required.

Technical Tips - Brake Disc Bedding

Disc Bedding
Heavy braking generates considerable heat which has to be absorbed by the disc, this in turn produces stresses within the disc which can lead to distortion, cracking and reduced service life..

Hence it is extremely important that you bed your new discs to ensure heat stabilisation and improve resistance to cracking. This is particularly crucial if you are using Performance Friction or similar Pads as the bedding procedure also allows these pads to coat the discs with a deposit that gives their high friction coefficient for optimum performance.

Cracks or even disc failure can occur during the first few heavy stops if careful bedding is not carried out.

We recommend you follow this procedure:
• Use previously BEDDED pads, preferably the same compound as you intend to use.
• If brake ducts are fitted they should be ¾ blanked off.
• For a MINIMUM of 10 miles use brakes gently at first from initially low speeds. PROGRESSIVELY raise speed to normal racing speed but still using GENTLE applications. DO NOT left foot brake or drag the brakes.
• Fir the final 2 or 3 applications the brakes can be used quite heavily.
• If you have Thermal Paint (AP Racing Part No. CP2649-1) applied to the Disc then only the Green Paint should have fully turned to white. The Orange Paint may have turned on the outside edges only.
Following these procedures will boost disc life and curb possible judder problems.

Safety and Care of Discs
Cast Iron Brake Discs should not normally be operated at bulk temperatures in excess of 610 Degrees Celsius and rotational speeds of 3000 revolutions per minute.

Discs must be regularly and frequently inspected for excessive heat crazing and cracking.

Discs with cracks emanating from mounting holes / slots, inside diameter, scallops or outside diameter must be changed immediately.

After heavy and prolonged use some surface crazing will often be evident. If this turns into distinct surface cracks which are radiating towards the inside or outside diameter the disc should be changed immediately.

a word of warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do NOT follow the Pagid bedding-in instrustions if you have fitted "fast road" or rs4.2.1 pads...........they require a much more road orientated procedure..........

also, if fitting new discs and you follow any of the bedding procedures above (which all relate to race compound type pads) then you will shorten the life at best and probs "warp" your discs at worst thro' introducing "thermal shock" to the metal discs..............

Well I haven't been braking from 90 or 100 down, guessed that the instructions were for track orientated pads. Had discs and pads fitted yesterday and seem to be bedding in nicely, feel and bite getting better all the time. Braided hoses next I think
