Tricky situation. Personally I wouldn't put any brake pad, whether sold as OEM specification or not, anywhere near one of my cars, without knowing exactly what make and specification it was.
While I doubt a company like Kwik-Fit would fit pigeon poo, the brakes on these cars are so critical that, even if you drive fairly sedately, it'd be preferable to get a known good (and consistent) fast road pad like Mintex 1144 or similar, than go with something unknown and unbranded.
Obviously if you like to press on a bit, it'd be worth spending a little more on better pads. Either way, if you know what you're putting on, you know you'll be able to rely on the performance.

most of the Prodrive options are simply Ferodo compounds sold at a higher price............
something like ds2500 is a very good "fast road" type option, really depends on what you are using your car for and how "hard" you drive??
we can supply Ferodo (and others!!) and do various offers incl. "free" delivery for Scoobynet peeps........
if you need any advice just ring 0191-4103770

Neilo, I heard of someone who paid extra for the Prodrive upgrade pads and said they were crap. Think also they had Prodrive discs too, I can't comment myself as still using OEM stuff on my car.
Shouldn't be that difficult to change pads yorself I'd have thought.
Andy.

I would say that the pads are the most important part of the braking system as regard to performance goes , You could have the best and biggest brakes possible ( godspeeds ) but if you put a standard pad in then they will fade to nothing with hard driving.
It depends what you want out of them , all pads are made to a certain standard , and a standard pad will do the job perfectly if you drive normally , once you press on then they are no good ,they will fade , I personally think the Mintex and Ferodo's are the best all round pads as regards to cost and performance
Hope this helps

Id just need to get somebody to fit them thats all, as my expertise is limited to say the least, thats all im worried about. How much would we be talking for a pair of Ferodo's?

Unsure of the present mileage on the pads, but it sounds like they have worn pretty quickly. So it sounds like you are harder on braking than average. In that case you would probably benefit from a decent set of fast pads, rather than just the run of the mill standard.

Hi,
i have a MY00 turbo fitted with DBA longlife gold drilled and grooved discs, i'm using standard subaru pads at the mo (only bought car 2 weeks ago), what kind of price will i be looking at paying to upgrade the front and backs to Mintex or Ferodo pads? Presuming these would be the best types from looking at previous threads?
Thanks

Lol! I wish. RS4-2's last me about 2500-3000 miles a set, and that's without any track use. If you're getting five figures from standard pads, I think it's safe to say you're not a particularly heavy braker...
Mintex 1144 would probably be the best all-round choice Neil.

Tap the 2 pins holding the pads in , remove the sring clip , slide out the old pads , push the pistons back into the calipers and fit the new pads , put the string clip back in place and refit the pins , pump the brake pedal to get the pistons back out.
As easy as that
Cheers Ian
