upgrade 98 brakes

Sorry if this is regular question but need help!
I have a MY98 turbo and the brakes are not good !
Can I bolt on the 4 pots from 99 / 00 cars straight on, or would I have to change discs and mounting points? Are the 4 pots much better than my existing 2 pots, or should I save up a bit more and go for a different system altogether?
I am running the standard 17 inch wheels
I need to do something soon because it scares me at the moment when i hit the middle pedle hard

If you only do road work then the 4 pots are tyhe best starting point, they do bolt straight on, the only question is the wheels, you say you have the 'standard' 17's, which ones??

Ron - good point, have just been out to check and noticed that they are 16's! I don't know why i thought they were 17 inch, I think i just assumed!
They are the 5 spoke jobs, where the spokes are slightly curved, it's a UK MY98 turbo, I think this design was standard for that year???

AFAIK, the standard 4-pot set up off post 99 cars was for bigger discs too. (294mm vs 277mm).
You still might get a set on here ,as they do come up occasionally.
Not sure about wheels though, by the time I did any brake upgrades, I already upgraded my wheels.
I swopped my standard '98 brakes for Godspeed calipers with 320mm discs under 17" wheels (OE '01 Scoob), and then for their Brembo calipers and 335mm discs.
Not as cheap as OE 4-pots : but well worth it.

Thanks for that alcazar, I wasn't sure if the disc sizes were the same. I'm still stuck then on if I could put the larger diameter discs and 4 pot callipers striaght onto hub without fouling on the wheels
I don't know if I (by that i mean my credit card ) can warrent the cost of a new set up like the one you describe, the car is my only car and is for road work only, it doesn't go near a track as my GSX-R is my track toy! I think the 99 4-pots are gonna be the cheapest way to improve the shocking std set up, but don't want to buy a second hand set without being sure they are going to fit !!

These DO fit under the original 5 spoke UK 16" alloys.
They are much better, but I'm afraid I can't say whether the calipers will fit the standard disk - TSL could probably advise,
They supplied my second hand calipers....

Whereabouts are you in Staffordshire m8? I'm trying to find my nearest scooby specialist and Nottingham seems to the place to go at the moment?!?

The 2 pot set up is for 277mm discs and the 4 pots for 294mm ones , you cannot fit the calipers on the wrong sized discs , the 294mm discs with the four pots will fit straight onto your uprights as all the impreza's have the same hubs

I'm in Stone - I always use TSL now for servicing (Nr Nottingham).
Gave up with my local dealer after they shredded the wheel stud threads on 4 studs on 1 wheel !

How long does it take to get to TSL from stone??
I am looking to move away from main dealer as no warrenty left so it's a bit silly paying crazy labour charges, although I have to say they have always been very helpfull and effecient & give the scooby a clean after servicing - but still works out at an expensive clean!!

an hour - There is also a guy in Market Drayton - he replaced a gearbox oil seal and BOTH cam cover gaskets for 150 quid for me - only charges 25 an hour and I've had no probs -
I can sort out his number if you like....
TSL are good, but hourly rate is similar to dealer....
