I've seen a lot of people on here recommending the Ferodo DS2000 pads when it comes time to replacing.

Quick question - are these pads so hard that I'm gonna need to upgrade my front discs too?

No. This stuff is disc friendly, I've used DS2000 in the past on an otherwise standard 1.4 Fiesta and disc wear was reduced and braking was much improved. Now got DS2500 all round on my STi8 with std discs and it's lovely and much quieter and no disc wear problems. Also put DS2500 on girlfriend's 1.25 Fiesta with new discs from Halfords (Alyn at asperformance did me a good deal for three sets of pads) and she's delighted with the feel and stopping power and she's not a car nut like us. DS2500 is supposed to be more "road biased" whatever that means.
