Hi,

Had my MY03 WRX up on a ramp this week and couldn't believe the ammount of corrosion on the inner side of the brake caliper units.

I'd recently noticed the paint on the outside (normally visable side) of the calipers starting to fade and corrode a little bit, but was a bit shocked to see the inside side.

This is on a 3 month old, 4k miles only car, which is garaged all the time.

Is this normal?

thanks,

Chris

been useing alloy wheel cleaner?

if not i bet the service wash lads have been when your car was in for its free service, they normaly get a quick wash over as well

quick = valter gets only £2 ish for a wash leather and vac
quickest way to clean wheels = bang a bit of alloy cleaner on the rims and wash the outside of the car down

we used to see the brand new pug callipers go all horible on the 1st service as well

might not be that tho

Mine have done the same. Alloy wheel cleaner has taken some of the calliper's finish off. Must be a really cheap coating which they used.

Basically, not acceptable on a £20k car.

Hi,

I've never used alloy wheel cleaner (once bought a bottle but a mate in the motor trade said not to use it). Mayby it's the valet after the service as you suggest (?).

Cheers,

Chris.

As I understand it, the caliper get replaced every two years in japan, as part of a kind-of mot, so they would be exactly worried about it would they!
